Non-Birthing Parents' Perinatal Experience
When we think about perinatal care, the focus is often on the birthing parent, which is understandable... but what about the rest of the caregiving team? Our research partners at Nested recently found that nearly 40% of non-birthing caregivers — whether dads, partners, adoptive parents or parents via surrogacy — face significant challenges during the perinatal period, yet 98% were never screened or supported in any structured way. This lack of attention leaves many silently struggling, impacting not just them but the entire family dynamic.
We are launching a national study to better understand the mental health experiences of non-birthing caregivers. Perinatal support should include every caregiver recognizing their unique needs and the important roles they play. By participating, you can help shape more inclusive screening practices, reduce stigma, and ensure that no caregiver is left facing challenges alone.
